Class Policy
The following sections make up the class policy for MAD Fabrics + Studio, LLC, referred to as “the studio” throughout this document.
Cancellation:
By Studio: In the event that a class cancellation is made by the Studio for any reason, the students enrolled will be refunded the full amount of the class or the student may decide to use the payment as credit at the studio and transfer it to another class.
- Weather: Pesky IL weather may force class cancellation. Attendees will be informed of weather-related cancelations prior to the start of the class session. The class will be rescheduled. If the attendee is unable to make the rescheduled time, full price class credit will be offered to put towards a future class.
By Attendee: Class registration may be canceled by emailing the studio at connect@madfabrics-studio.com.
- Cancellation request emailed up to 2 days before date of class: Full price refund given in the form of class credit. Example: Class is on the 3rd, cancellation for a full refund in the form of class credit would need to be done by the 1st.
- Cancellation request emailed a day before the date of class: Half price refund given in the form of class credit.
- Cancellation requested emailed the same day of the class: This is considered a last-minute cancellation. I’m human and understand emergencies, so the first time you have a last-minute cancellation, the studio will give a full refund in the form of class credit to be used for a future class. If last minute cancellations occur more than once, then only half price refunds will given in the form of class credit.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a smooth and fair experience for all of our students!
Missed Classes:
Missed classes are when the attendee is a no-show at the time of class and there has been no communication to cancel their attendance. No refunds or make-up sessions will be given for missed classes.
Refunds:
The studio does not refund card payments related to class purchases. Refunds will be given as class credit for cancellations as outlined in the Cancellation portion of the policy. No refunds are given for missed classes. In addition, if an attendee has been barred from the studio for breaking the code of conduct, but enrolls in other classes, those classes will NOT be refunded. The reason we are unable to provide card refunds for class purchases is because the credit card processing fees cause our small business to lose money and we are already operating on tight margins to keep prices low. We want to stay in business to serve our community and appreciate the understanding of this policy!
Payments:
Secure online payments can be made with any major credit card through our website. We do not offer payment plans for class purchases. Payment in full is required through the website when enrolling in a class. Failure to make payment and enroll in a class through the website will result in an individual being unable to attend the class in studio or in another studio space, as applicable.
Pricing:
Materials are not included in the cost of classes unless otherwise stated in the class description or required when registering for a class. The studio does not include materials in the cost of the class so that attendees have flexibility to source their own materials for creative or budgeting purposes. The studio strives to provide a wide variety of price points on inventory but understand that sewing can be an expensive hobby. We love to encourage thrifty shopping! It won’t hurt our feelings if you bring your own materials….we are happy you are hanging out with us in the studio!!
Pricing is for one individual (ages 7+). We do not currently offer discounts for minors, seniors, military, or students. The studio is pricing classes as low as we can for our customers, but also just enough to pay our bills and grow our product and service offerings.
Children:
Most of our classes are eligible for children ages 7+ to participate. Class descriptions will indicate if a class is not intended for children. An adult guardian is required to be in attendance with children 14 years and younger. Group classes with a child and an adult are required to purchase 2 attendances. For private lessons, an adult is required to be present but is not required to pay for extra attendance. The studio reserves the right to dismiss a child and adult guardian if they fail to follow safety rules and are determined to be a risk of injury to themselves or others. Failure to follow studio rules will result in removal from the class and the property.
Security:
The studio premises are under video surveillance for the safety and security of the attendees, staff, and business property.
Attendees:
- Code of Conduct – The studio’s code of conduct is that attendees are responsible for maintaining a respectful and polite attitude towards staff and other attendees. Hate speech, disrespectful speech or actions, and prejudicial speech or actions will not be tolerated. Disorderly conduct, vulgar language, or obvious impairments are not allowed. Breaching this code of conduct will result in removal from class and the premises as well as being barred from future classes and events and banned from the premises. The attendee will be notified either in writing (email or paper) or in person of the breach and subsequent ban from classes and premises. The studio reserves the right to decide what qualifies as breaches of the code of conduct.
- Class preparedness – Most classes will not require materials purchase from my store. We want attendees to have options when it comes to sourcing their materials. Because of this, it is the attendee’s responsibility to have all of the required materials for class. There will be no guarantee that materials needed for the class will be available for purchase in the studio on the day of the class. Attendees who do not have the required materials for class and are unable to purchase materials in the studio will not be eligible for a refund or for class transfer. The attendee is welcome to remain in the class but will not be able to complete the project(s). The attendee is also responsible for ensuring that any equipment that they bring with them is functional and safe for use. No refunds are given if attendees’ personal equipment is unusable during class.
- Class Materials – The attendee is solely responsible for purchasing materials that meet the requirements outlined in the class description. The studio is not responsible for incorrect materials purchased by attendee and is not responsible for providing alternatives or solutions to attendee at any time. No refunds will be given for class(es) that the attendee has registered for but has incorrect or insufficient materials. Attendee will be asked to leave the class and the premises.
- Attendees will abide by all of the rules and guidelines outlined in this policy.
- Waiver – Attendees will be required to sign a waiver before class since sharp and potentially dangerous items such as scissors and rotary cutters will be used. Failure to fill out a waiver prior to class starting will result in the attendee being barred from the class and removed from the premises. No refunds will be given for classes where an attendee refuses to sign the waiver.
- Accessibility and Adaptiveness: The attendee is responsible for notifying the studio via email (connect@madfabrics-studio.com) if there are any concerns about building and facility accessibilities or about medical/physical conditions that may impact the attendee’s ability to participate in the class. The studio is more than happy to accommodate everyone we can and want to make sure the attendees and staff are educated and set up for success and safety! We want everyone to have an absolutely wonderful experience in the studio!! Everyone, EVERYONE, is welcome here!
- Personal Items – Attendees are solely responsible for their personal items that are brought into the studio. The studio is not responsible for lost or stolen items. See “Left Behind Items” section for more information on items that are left in studio.
- Rental Equipment – If an attendee is using rented studio equipment, such as a sewing machine or serger, the attendee is responsible for following all rules, guidelines, and instructions provided by the studio. If the attendee does not follow the rules, guidelines, and instructions of the studio staff and the machine(s) break as a direct result of the attendee’s actions, the attendee will be held responsible and liable for the cost of repairs, or the cost of a new machine should it be unrepairable.
Recording:
Audio and video recording without prior permission of the class, staff, or other attendees is NOT permitted. If an attendee is caught recording, they will be required to delete the recording in front of staff and removed from the premises. They may also be barred from future classes and events. No refunds will be given for violation of this policy.
Food and Drinks:
The studio welcomes non-alcoholic beverages brought to class as well as snacks that do NOT contain nuts, fish or seafood, or sesame. This is due to allergens and wanting to keep a safe and sanitary space for all attendees. If unpermitted food or drink is brought to class, the studio is within their right to request disposal of the disallowed food or beverage. Refusal by the attendee to dispose of the disallowed food or beverage will result in removal from class and the premises. No refunds will be given.
Cleanliness:
The studio will disinfect all rental equipment and workspaces after each use. This ensures that attendees will have clean and disinfected surfaces to work on. We do ask that if you are not feeling well, to please reach out to the studio. Please refer to the cancellation policy.
Studio Photography and Videography:
The studio reserves the right to use photos and videos taken during classes, workshops, and other events in the studio’s publicity materials and social media. Registration in classes gives us permission to use those images without further consent or compensation. Note that there will be no photos taken, used, or published of minors’ faces. We take minors’ privacy very seriously.
Left Behind Items:
The studio is not responsible for caring for, protecting, or storing items or equipment that is left behind by an attendee. The studio is also not responsible for contacting class attendees to figure out who owns the item(s) that were left behind. If item(s) are not claimed within 24 hours or arrangements made to pick up item(s) within 24 hours, the studio maintains the right to remove the item from the premises via donation or disposal.
Shared Studio Materials/Equipment:
The studio will provide certain materials or equipment for general use by class attendees. The use of these materials is only for classes or private lessons. The studio maintains ownership of all shared studio materials and equipment at all times. Attendees who are found to have removed or taken shared class materials will be barred from future classes and events and will be held liable for any loss(es) incurred by the studio as a result of the removed or taken materials.
General Class Comments:
- Group class sizes are 5 seats for classes held on studio premises. Group class will be held, even if the class is not at full capacity.
- A waitlist is available for classes that fill up. Should there be a cancellation, the waitlist will be notified.
- Feedback surveys will be given out after classes taught by guest teachers. We encourage attendees to fill these out. It helps shape future classes!
- Shopping for classes can be conducted in the15 minutes before or after a class. Once a new class begins, all prior attendees will be asked to leave so that the next class can begin. The website has 24/7 shopping and there is an in-store pickup option if additional shopping time is required! Since we are a one woman show, we appreciate the understanding with this and hope that as we grow, we are able to allow for extended (and publicly open) shopping times!
